Kenyan gospel singer Papa Dennis has passed away on Friday, February 7 after he fell from an apartment building in Pangani.
His lifeless body was found near the Jubilee Party Headquarters in Pangani with initial reports indicating suicide.
According to his twin brother Simon Mwangi, he last saw Papa Dennis when left him in a studio on Friday night.
“I was at Jamhuri with Papa Dennis earlier Friday. He left and went to Pangani. At around 9 pm, I joined him in Pangani. He had asked me to give him his passport,” Mwangi explained.
According to reports, a postmortem will be conducted on the body of the late gospel singer on today, February 10 at the City Mortuary.
Maliza Umaskini, the founder Sadat Muhindi, the label Papa Dennis was signed to has also issued a statement following the tragic death of award-winning gospel singer.
“Papa Dennis broke barriers and stretched boundaries in the music industry in unparalleled fashion. He certainly remains an Icon and a great inspiration to the talented youth of our nation and Africa at large.
“Maliza Umasikini is grateful and privileged to have worked with such a highly talented artiste. We urge all concerned state agencies to speed up investigations into the untimely death of this music Icon and conclusively report to Kenyans on the same.
“As Maliza Umasikini we shall stand with the family, friends and colleagues in this difficult time,” Muhindi said.
Popularly known for his breakout hit ‘Foundation’ featuring Daddy Owen, Dennis has also collaborated with some of Nigerian biggest acts Chidinma, Flavor and Korede Bello.
In 2018, he won an Afrimma for Best African Gospel Artist of the Year.
