The ongoing construction of three major bus and taxi terminals in Abuja has provided employment opportunities for more than 3,000 residents, according to Mr. Rasheed Sholadoye, Project Manager of Planet Projects, the firm executing the project.
The initiative, launched by Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike in July 2024, aims to modernise public transportation in the FCT while generating jobs for the local population. The terminals are being built at strategic locations in Mabushi, Central Area, and Kugbo.
Sholadoye emphasized that both skilled and unskilled workers, as well as security personnel, have been engaged in the project. He noted that hiring Abuja residents was a key condition of the contract, aligning with the FCT Administration’s job creation strategy.

Construction at the Mabushi and Kugbo terminals commenced in July 2024, while work at the Central Area site began two months later due to delays caused by the relocation of underground facilities near Eagle Square. Despite this, he stated that the project remains on track, “Mabushi terminal is now 92% complete, Kugbo terminal is at 85%, and the Central Area terminal is at about 50% completion.”
Sholadoye assured that the Mabushi and Kugbo terminals would be completed by the end of February 2025, while the Central Area terminal is expected to be ready by May 2025.
Beyond transportation, the terminals are designed to integrate commercial activities, including cinema halls for commuters. The Central Area terminal will feature state-of-the-art amenities, making it a landmark facility in the capital.
In May 2024, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved N96 billion for transportation infrastructure in Abuja, covering the bus terminals, security operations, and road upgrades.
