A suspected serial killer has been apprehended following the unearthing of over 10 bodies in a pit dug within the kitchen of his Kigali residence, as reported by Rwandan police and local media on Wednesday.

According to the authorities, the 34-year-old suspect had encountered his victims, both men and women, at local bars, enticing them to his rented dwelling on the outskirts of Rwanda’s capital.

“He employed a strategy of enticing his victims, primarily involving prostitutes, to his domicile, where he pilfered their mobile phones and personal possessions before strangling them and interring them in a pit excavated in his kitchen,” stated Thierry Murangira, the spokesperson for the Rwandan Bureau of Investigation (RIB), as quoted by local media.

Rwandan media outlets have asserted that the count of bodies discovered surpasses 10, with a confidential source from the RIB divulging that 14 victims have thus far been accounted for.

In response to inquiries, the RIB spokesperson refrained from confirming this number, asserting that “the ultimate tally (of victims) will be ascertained through forensic inquiries.”

The suspect had previously been taken into custody in July on charges of rape and robbery, yet was subsequently released on bail due to insufficient evidence, as affirmed by spokesperson Thierry Murangira, as relayed by the media.

The investigation proceeded diligently, ultimately leading to the revelation of the bodies within the kitchen pit during a search of his residence.

“The suspect admitted to acquiring knowledge of murder techniques by consuming content related to well-known serial killers. He resorted to dissolving some of his victims in acid,” disclosed an anonymous source within the RIB.

“He meticulously studied his victims before enticing them to his abode, favoring those least likely to have close family or friends who might raise concern about their disappearance,” the source further elaborated.
