In Las Vegas, Teofimo Lopez successfully defended his light-welterweight title in a contentious unanimous points victory against fellow countryman Jamaine Ortiz.
Despite being 26 years old, Lopez appeared to be outmatched throughout the 12 rounds, with two judges scoring the bout 115-113 and one issuing a highly disputed scorecard of 117-111. The decision was met with disapproval from the audience inside the Michelob Ultra Arena.

Responding to the crowd’s reaction, Lopez addressed them, albeit using inappropriate language.
“You all could boo all you want”. Lopez remarked, followed by a regrettable slur directed at the audience.
He then proceeded to challenge Terence Crawford, the American unified welterweight champion, to a match at a catchweight. With confidence, he said, “I’m here; I’m ready. I’m hungry, I’m younger, I’m prettier.”
Ortiz, displaying agility and evasiveness, capitalised on his reach advantage and nimble footwork, frustrating Lopez throughout the match, particularly with his southpaw stance.
