According to a senior official with the state-owned Sudanese Mineral Resources Corporation, 14 miners have killed and more than 20 have been hurt in a mine collapse in Sudan’s Northern state.

A mountaintop near the al Jabal al Ahmar mine, which is 70 kilometres from Wadi Halfa city, partially fell on Thursday, resulting in the fatal tragedy.

Witnesses claimed that miners were using large machinery to dig for gold, which is what actually caused the fall.

It should be recalled that on February 28, 2023, Mopani Copper Mines in Zambia suspended operations at one of its shafts in Kitwe, more than 350 kilometres north of the capital Lusaka, following an accident that resulted in the death of a worker.
