Ghana Court Dismisses Defamation Suit Against Kennedy Agyapong

A High Court in Accra, Ghana has dismissed a defamation suit filed against Kennedy Agyapong, a Member of Parliament.

The suit was filed by investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, against Agyapong represents Assin Central in the parliament.

In a ruling on Wednesday, the Court presided over by Justice Eric Baah, a Court of Appeal judge who doubles as a High Court Judge, dismissed the case for lacking merit. Judge Baah added that although the words spoken against Anas were factual and capable of defamation, he could not prove the same.

“From the above, I hold that the plaintiff is a blackmailer who uses blackmail to extort money from his opponents and people he does not like.’’ Judge Baah stated.

He added that Anas is not practising true investigative journalism, but rather investigative terrorism.

Subsequently, the court awarded the cost of GH¢50,000 against Anas.
